I thought I...Hi...just found your blog...great fun. I thought I was the only one is the world who loves Betty Neels. Boy am I wrong! I just found that the New York Public Library has TONS of Betty Neels books available as ebooks and now I am on a a tearaway BINGE and reading them on my iPhone (not as annoying as you think and tres portable). Has anyone mentioned how very very Austen-y All Else Confusion is? The most Austen-esque of the books I've read so far. I have not kept track, but I've been a fan since I was 12. My parents freaked that I had such low-brow taste, but I think these are all very well-written.Betty Wolk-Stanleyhttp://www.olk-stanley.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-75484237579010420192013-05-06T12:53:22.051-07:002013-05-06T12:53:22.051-07:00Yes, but he did not know he loved her from the beg...Yes, but he did not know he loved her from the beginning and, more importantly, he did not expect to love her. Remember the proposal?
Mess with her mind? I have seen no evidence of that. Create the wife he wants? I thought that he thought she was what he wanted when he proposed. "Fit the bill." Jake has not treated Annis like trash. I am not saying he was always nice to her. Far from it. But definitely, no blech. I daresay, we can agree to disagree.Betty Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15517346001348814015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-35502747891451050692013-05-05T21:16:33.343-07:002013-05-05T21:16:33.343-07:00Annis - not believeable. People appreciate beauty and even if the guys don't notice, the family would have and she wouldn't have be so willing to put up with the mental abuse this guy dished out.

Jake - Betty gives us a few of these creepy leading men (can't bring myself to call this one a hero). He's rich and too good for the usual women in his sphere, so he trolls around and finds a beauty, who's also unsophisticated so he can mess with her mind and create the wife he wants. A little too 'Stepfordy' if you ask me. I did not believe his impassioned claims at the end. Loved her from the beginning and decided to treat her like trash anyway? Does not bode well for the rest of the wedded blech, or did I mean bliss. No, definately blech.BettyMaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12676458096380002508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-78898159973803127272013-05-04T08:37:08.772-07:002013-05-04T08:37:08.772-07:00Forgot to add... It was Annis who reminded me as she went to Jolly’s in Milsom Street, Bath, to buy a new dress so she could go out to dinner with Jake the next day, and then on the way out bought a pair of sandals. My mom and dad used to live in the centre of a small town. My mom said when she got a new dress she would take it home, try it on and then go to a shoe store almost next door and buy matching shoes.Betty Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15517346001348814015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-85138306880672728282013-05-01T08:01:02.451-07:002013-05-01T08:01:02.451-07:00Have to agree with the tinned soup on this one. She fondly remembered a certain dress she bought there. "A jersey dress". Betty A. could barely contain her mirth. And right upon this thought followed another: the jersey dress she wore for my christening, dark with a little moss green in it and purple swirls. Very tight. The kind of dresses you could wear again these days she said.Betty Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15517346001348814015noreply@blogger.com
