Based on Dr Google's crib notes, boy meets girl. Girl utters boy's name. Girl runs away. Boy spends considerable time (wastes his youth) trying to find girl 'Through hollow lands and hilly lands' and hopes to spend rest of his life with her. Loveday inadvertently utters his name, ‘I don’t know you from Adam...' Their courtship encompasses hilly Maidera and flat Holland. Every time, Adam thinks he has captured Loveday she eludes him until he corners her in the Nurse's sitting room, 'Dear girl,’ he declared genially, ‘how I do waste my time chasing you around!’

Cruise to a Wedding is a fun romp. Loveday doesn't believe in her heart of hearts that Rimanda will marry Terry so we don't find her decision to assist to be morally objectionable (and she is roundly punished for it). She is angered that Adam has inferred that she 'old' with his meddling busy body quip so it really is about their one-up-man-ship than Rimmy.

Yes, we too wondered who George Michael is substituting for. We wish that MB in reprinting these novels will use the original text than the later amendments.

The Silencehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11726296159407789314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-9773701632068000742021-02-28T21:50:22.173-08:002021-02-28T21:50:22.173-08:00I came here for the George Michael comments, but a...I came here for the George Michael comments, but apparently that's the least problematic aspect of this book...that was written in 1974.tjbwaldringhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17432405211116904031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-10568004811383717322014-01-03T15:16:04.449-08:002014-01-03T15:16:04.449-08:00If you forget BN and read it as a Julia Roberts/Ca...If you forget BN and read it as a Julia Roberts/Cameron Diaz comedy it is very funny but if you are expecting true BN it just isn't serious enough - think of The Secret Pool and A Girl Named Rose.

I thought Rimada seemed too nearly insane to ever be a functioning nurse and the unlikelihood of a fabulously rich heiress being made to train as a nurse at all quite unswallowable.

As for the Baron....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-17696060348218814932012-05-13T08:31:50.839-07:002012-05-13T08:31:50.839-07:00Before we go on to Uncertain Summer let me show yo...Before we go on to Uncertain Summer let me show you one beautiful aspect of Cruise to a Wedding. Obviously, this is another one of those books that hardly anybody but me seems to have enjoyed reading. sigh Betty Anonymous, feeling dejected, curling up on the sofa with a large carton of... - Nah! Just kidding. Besides, there is only a smallish carton of ice-cream in the freezer, 900 ml or almost a quart, which I am honourbound to share with its kind giver - who, luckily, wishes for a very small portion... But I digress.
Perhaps you'll enjoy taking a look at their hotel Reid's Palace in Madeira.
I'll spare your sensibilities by not citing the restaurant review I found (restaurant in London).
And I'm looking forward to next weeks review.
Betty AnonymousAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-71519695037731748192012-05-08T21:22:28.355-07:002012-05-08T21:22:28.355-07:00Well, when she appears later in Esmeralda, already...Well, when she appears later in Esmeralda, already married, she was quite sweet. LOL in order to get rid of the leech! I thought that was awesome.

I liked Adam.

I liked how he took his job seriously with Rimmy and went on the cruise to do some clever manipulation. Who IRL would actually go to such lengths for a tiresome ward????
I loved how he planned for another (much better suitor) of hers to meet them at the destination. Excellent plan. Very romantic.

I liked how cool he was at the heights when he found out she was sick.

I liked all his actions in pursuit of our Loveday.
Therefore, I hated all her reactions to his monumental heroisms.

I didn't think she deserved someone as wonderful as him.

Was there anything wonderful about her???? (other than her figure?)

Betty FrancescaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-64867118516184189912012-05-08T13:39:23.502-07:002012-05-08T13:39:23.502-07:00I liked this less than Little Dragon and that was ...I liked this less than Little Dragon and that was always my bottom line.
