Reminds me of two boys with guitars giving concerts at school, one of them extremely handsome, the music and their voices so beautiful, the hair would stand up at the back of my neck.Betty Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15517346001348814015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-48534713416127096962012-11-10T08:08:10.077-08:002012-11-10T08:08:10.077-08:00Wish I'd see you running from that elk bull. M...Wish I'd see you running from that elk bull. My dad once took the dog out in the morning, seven thirty-ish. He meant to take the path that runs along the side of forest they live next to when all of a sudden, on a parallel path about four yards inside the forest, he saw a herd of wild boar coming along, single file... He opted for a safer route and turned around immediately.Betty Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15517346001348814015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-9457944893030387542012-11-08T21:07:08.329-08:002012-11-08T21:07:08.329-08:00I have to tell you about what happened at the Prim...I have to tell you about what happened at the Primitive Baptist Church in Cades Cove. To see the church, we took a short drive down a dirt road off the main loop. We were following a van that said Life Tabernacle Church, Indianapolis, Indiana. The people from the van went into the church right ahead of us, and two of them were carrying guitars. Well, a revival broke out! The two men played, one sang, and a woman with a big, wonderful voice sang also. They played and sang old gospel songs, and I have to say it was really something. Here we were in this little old wood church built in 1887, having a revival. The acoustics were fabulous. The church pews filled up with people who were singing and clapping. I stayed for quite a few songs, then I slipped out to look at the cemetery. Even outside, the voices and music filled the cemetery. It was quite an unexpected experience! Just thinking about it gives me chills.

Betty AnoninTXAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-28688449675949558992012-11-08T21:02:21.725-08:002012-11-08T21:02:21.725-08:00A bull elk weighs up to 700 pounds easily. They bugle, scrape the dirt with their antlers and hooves, thrash the trees and bushes with their antlers... They also attack vehicles that get too close. This I've witnessed myself at Yellowstone. In the Smokies, the elk cows weren't quite ready to, uhm, conjugate verbs yet, but the bulls were definitely gathering and protecting their harems. I had to run from a bull elk at Mammoth Springs in Yellowstone. There were about six of us sitting out front of the Mammoth Springs Hotel, and a bull came around the corner and bugled. Y'all should have seen us scrambling to get in the front door! Fun memory.

The mileage was crazy! We had a few hard driving days in there. That's a day when all we do is drive. We really wanted to add a few more days in Maine and Canada, but the budget was already stretched. We skipped one planned side trip, too. We intended to go to the Lost Sea in Tennessee after we left Gatlinburg, but we were so tired and had a late start that day. It really strikes me how far we drove when I look at a map of the US/North America. Lubbock to Hopewell Cape.

Betty AnoninTXAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-931981138747432610.post-50434537015461985762012-11-07T12:04:11.099-08:002012-11-07T12:04:11.099-08:00OH.
