Results and The Handful of A Levels Bracket (Round 4)

We're getting down to the wire. In this last round, we go from six titles to consider, all the way down to a measley three. Caroline's Waterloo was the most decisive match-up, rolling over The Vicar's Daughter like monster truck bouncing over a row of crushed 1976 AMC Matadors.

Caroline and Margo each had a marriage of convenience in common.
Kind of like the way the Scarlet Bandit had four wheels and
the 70s era, four-door sedans it was pulverizing
had four wheels...

Here are the results:

Dearest Love
Caroline's Waterloo
Blow Hot, Blow Cold

It's a solid bracket. I will figure out how we will vote on a three-way match-up, the next time this comes around.

In the mean time, we have to charge on to the next call for votes in The Handful of A Levels Bracket (Round 4). It's shaping up to be a quieter bracket but I'm all for underdogs.

Underdogs like Hot, hot James McAvoy who
is 5'7". Look. People grow until they're perfect, okay?
Some of us just get there sooner.

  1. Betty Barbara here--(wondering about the love for 'Blow Hot, Blow Cold', which has a 5 star beginning that dwindles into 1 star tawdriness by the end.) Ahem...

    The Mistletoe Kiss
    A Gentle Awakening
    Tabitha in Moonlight

This wasn't too hard. Mistletoe Kiss is in my top 5. Tabitha is in my top 10. Neither Rose nor Florina are among my favorite heroines, so that one was a coin flip.

  2. Wish with the Candles
    A Girl Named Rose
    The Magic of living

I'm torn between the last two but Tabitha and the oil stained shorts will probably win this one.

  5. This is getting very difficult!

    Wish with the Candles
    A Gentle Awakening
    The Magic of Living

I found all three of these pairings difficult to choose between! I would have easily chosen Wish with the Candles over any of the others in the bracket except the Mistletoe Kiss.

The Magic of Living and Tabitha in Moonlight are both low on my list because I find the misunderstandings in them so frustrating!

And, like Betty Barb in Maryland it was a complete toss up between Rose and Florina. I do like the lemonade incident, though, while Rose's revenge moment doesn't actually come in this book but in the next one she appears in, so that was the clincher in the end.

  6. Re the voting next time around, why not add in the wildcards to even out the brackets? Or do they have to go into their own separate bracket?

    1. I already added the wildcards in so that we have three complete match-ups to vote on instead of two and a bye. What I expect I will do will be to have everyone vote on the book they want tossed and then we'll do a head-to-head vote thereafter. And we may do a couple of brackets at a time to speed up that process since we're dealing with far fewer titles.

    2. Oh, I love the idea of reverse voting (voting one out instead of having to choose). Not sure if it will be easier when I'm actually doing it, but it SOUNDS easier, thinking about it in advance!

  7. The Mistletoe Kiss
    A Girl Named Rose
    The Magic of Living

Fairly easy, except for the first, maybe, where I picked dear Emmy because she is cute.
    Rose is a greater favourite.
I've never been a great fan of Tabitha and the Oil-Stained Shorts 😏 but I ❤️ Arabella & Gideon.

  8. The Mistletoe Kiss
    A Gentle Awakening
    Magic of Living

This one was almost physically painful. I could have gone either way with the first two. I like all four books.

But Magic of Living and Tabitha in Moonlight? How could I decide against face cream and oil stained shorts? It was very difficult, but Magic of Living squeaked through because I do like it more overall than Tabitha (though I love them both). Plus Magic of Living was the first Betty book where I thought to myself, this author is a keeper. That was largely due to the face cream discussion. Just lovely :)

  9. Wish With the Candles
    A Gentle Awakening
    Tabitha in Moonlight

This was tough. Especially between TMOL v Tim. TMoL was my very first Betty and has always been a sentimental favourite.
