Results and On to Round Five

"It's getting too serious for flippant remarks."--Betty Pam

We're down to so few books now. The results of The Imperiled Poppets Bracket are as follows:
The Hasty Marriage took down The Secret Pool by several votes. Both of these books inspire strong feelings even if they aren't anyone's top two, so I imagine that that vote is going to hurt.  Cassandra By Chance beat Roses Have Thorns by a pretty good margin. And The Promise of Happiness beat Tulips For Augusta. There are some epic books in that bracket (not intentional, I assure you) and some good ones have fallen.

"Betty Keira. We, The Noble Faction of Lovers of The Secret Pool will
not be mollified by a picture of Chris Pine, Foremost of the Chrises...
Well, not unless it's a really, really big picture. And swoony too."
Each of the brackets now have three books and we're going to switch up how we do the voting this round to reflect that. I'm going to list the books by each bracket and you will be asked to choose the one book in each bracket you DO NOT want to see continue. To speed up the process, we're going to do it all in one round:

A) The Barfing on His Brogues Bracket:
Dearest Love
Caroline's Waterloo
Blow Hot, Blow Cold

B) The Handful of A Levels Bracket:
Wish With the Candles
A Gentle Awakening
Tabitha By Moonlight

C) The Hocked Locket Bracket:
Henrietta's Own Castle
Only By Chance
Dearest Mary Jane

D) The Imperiled Poppets Bracket:
The Hasty Marriage
Cassandra By Chance
The Promise of Happiness

Your vote should look something like this (with my examples drawn entirely at random):
A) Caroline's Waterloo
B)A Gentle Awakening
C)Dearest Mary Jane
D) The Promise of Happiness

And then below your vote, I expect wailing and gnashing of teeth. Don't listen to what the haters tell you, Betties. Running mascara and rage-eyes make us look classy.

Classy, you hear?

Again, the novel you vote for should be the one that you deem least worthy of wearing the winning tiara. Best of luck with the voting. Some of those brackets look really difficult. Pretty please don't make me break any ties!

Ha! That was a piece of cake! 🍰

Also, ALL OF MY VOTES MADE IT INTO THE NEXT ROUND. 😊

OK, so I had to kick one of them out in this round because it was up against two of my top top top favourites.
Can your see where that will lead in the next round?

    'Arrrrrrrgh! Nooooooo!'

  2. Betty Barbara here--drying my eyes over the ouster of 'Roses Have Thorns'. Some of my fellow Bettys obviously don't like pudgy cats. Hrumph!

    I'm bidding farewell to:

    A) Blow Hot, Blow Cold
    B) Wish with the Candles
    C) Only by Chance
    D) Cassandra by Chance

    A) I really dislike this book because of the wretched ending. We go from the excellent blot conversation to supposedly being happy that some mentally ill woman DIES, just so two nincompoops can get married. Fagh!
    B) Oh, this was a hard choice; but I don't like pretty Kitty and I do so love the lemonade drenching scene. Tabitha is a keeper!
    C) No problem here--poor 'Only by Chance is the weak sister in this group, IMO.
    D) The first half of Cassandra is 5-star/lashings of whipped cream; the seconds half is beans on toast. Plus The Hasty Marriage is one of my all-time guilty pleasures and Becky and His Hotness the Baron is in my top five. No way am I voting to eliminate either of those.

Hard choices but Dearest MaryAnn is my favorite and Becky & the Baron my 2nd fave. 😀

    B) Tabitha By Moonlight
    C) Dearest Mary Jane
    D) The Hasty Marriage

Reasons: Dearest Love has the famous plunger line but that's really the only memorable part of the story.
I know the pervy hordes love the scene with Marius's oil-stained shorts, but I find the misunderstandings in Tabitha book so frustrating, when they could be cleared up with just a simple conversation, still without giving away the secret plan.
I am absolutely flabbergasted that so many people are voting against Only By Chance when it contains the single best line in the Betty canon: "He was struck by such a gust of love that he could barely keep his hands off her." How can you toss that out? Give me one line from Mary Jane that can compete with it.
The last choice was the hardest: Cassandra is among my favourites so that bit was easy, but it was a toss up between the other two because I like both of them. Max coming over the wall at the end of Henrietta swayed me.

    1. Oh whoops, of course it was Henrietta against Mary Jane and I chose Becky's Baron over Nasty Reiloff in the last choice.

  9. A) Dearest Love
    B) Wish With the Candles
    C) Only By Chance
    D) The Hasty Marriage

    A) If the second half of Dearest Love were as good as the first half, it would be a legit contender, but it has no chance against Caro. B) & C) were both really tough; all the choices are in my Top 25. It really hurts saying goodbye to Emma & Justin and Henrietta & Adam. D) This one was easy – not a fan of The Hasty Marriage.

  11. I vote to eliminate:
    A) Blow Hot, Blow Cold
    B) Tabitha by Moonlight
    C) Henrietta's Own Castle
    D) The Hasty Marriage

I had a real problem only with D). The Hasty Marriage is my secret love. And while The Promise of Happiness is mostly great, Tiele was so needlessly cruel to Becky like a slap to the face. Atleast Reilof was cruel to Laura only at the start of the book and when he was himself hurting badly. But at the end of the day, The Promise of Happiness had so much greatness in it, especially the beginning and Becky herself.
