Results and The Hocked Locket Bracket (Round 2)

Voting must have been difficult for The Handful of A Levels Bracket since there wasn't a book that didn't get at least a handful of votes and, in the comments I found some impassioned pleading. (Betty Melody about the doomed 'Saturday's Child': "Come on, people!") Going forward, I pushed 'The Magic of Living' into a match-up and will be giving 'A Gentle Awakening' a bye. I feel that Florina's lemonade escapade is bye-worthy.

Wish With the Candles vs.
The Chain of Destiny
Tulips for Augusta vs.
The Mistletoe Kiss
The Fifth Day of Christmas vs.
A Girl Named Rose
The Magic of Living vs.
Stormy Springtime
A Gentle Awakening (bye)

Now on to The Hocked Locket Bracket. It's really hitting me that after this round each of the brackets will be so small. I'll have to decide if I want to slip the Wildcard nominations at the end of Round 2 or Round 3 when, I suspect, some real weeping will being going on. So keep that in mind and let me know if you have a preference.
Thomas asks Isobel:
'Why don't you want me to see that you wear the amber necklace?'

As ever, if you are new to The Uncrushable Jersey Dress (welcome!) you are more then welcome to pop into the voting at any time. (We've closed voting on the bracket you see above and are voting on the link that is just below it.) Again, feel free to vote for what you can, for any reason you want. We love to read your comments after you have posted your votes for the internal battle you had to fight inside yourself in order to vote the way you did. You may vote here or over on the Facebook page under the post. Happy voting, Betties!

  2. A Christmas Romance
    Henrietta's Own Castle
    A Match for Sister Maggie
    A Dream Came True
    Winter Wedding
    Never Say Goodbye
    Only By Chance
    Midnight Sun's Magic
    Tempestuous April.

Most of these decisions were easy to make. I am sorry to offend the Fate is Remarkable brigade but I really like Jake and Annis (Mark I -- as opposed to annoying accountant Jake and wimpy Annis Mark II in All Else Confusion), and the Immortal Bird, and Jake stumping up the aisle on his crutches. And Svalbard is on my bucket list as a place to visit partly because of this book.

  3. C'mas Wish
    Mary Jane
    Julie
    Dream
    Romantic Encounter
    Never Say Goodbye
    Only By Chance
    Fate is R.

The only one that gave me trouble (she says boastfully) was Henrietta v. Mary Jane. Dire! But oh how I love a good tea shop. Henrietta would easily have beaten everything else in the bracket; how sad.

  4. Wow! Almost totally wiped out! Only two of my choices made it into the next round, plus The Magic of Living. And I don't even have the time for a calming, fortifying cup of tea. ;o)

  5. A Christmas Romance
    Dearest Mary Jane
    A Match for Sister Maggy
    Not Once But Twice
    Romantic Encounter
    Matilda's Wedding
    Only By Chance
    Fate is Remarkable
    Tempestuous April (bye)

Some close ones for me, but none particularly heartwrenching except Henrietta v Mary Jane. I really like Philomena, but I was swept away by gushes of love for Only by Chance. ;) And Midnight Sun's Magic is the best of the Norway books, IMO, but it's up against FiR which is in my top 3.

But, I'm saddened to see so little love for my fav couple, Chrissy & Duert!!!

The hardest part was deciding between A Christmas Wish and A Christmas Romance. Sorry, Mr Patel.

The easiest were Not Once But Twice and Winter Wedding.

Thank you, Betty Pam, for making me realize I had made a ghastly mistake. Phew!

  8. Betty Barbara here, grumping over several of these matchups. Hrmph!

    A Christmas Romance
    Dearest Mary Jane
    A Match for Sister Maggy
    A Dream Came True
    Winter Wedding
    Matilda's Wedding
    Philomena's Miracle
    Midnight Sun's Magic
    Tempestuous April

    My main grump was having to pick between Henrietta (ladder!) and Mary Jane (fabric mice!). {{Grump}} I wish one of those had been given the bye rather than Haughty Harry tours Holland. {{Grump}}

  9. A Christmas Romance
    Henrietta's Own Castle
    A Kiss for Julie
    A Dream Came True
    Winter Wedding
    Never Say Goodbye
    Only By Chance
    Midnight Sun's Magic
    Tempestuous April

Oh wow--this group was hard. Really hard. It broke my heart to have to decide between Henrietta's Own Castle and Dearest Mary Jane, and then I had to go and decide between Mathilda's Wedding and Never Say Goodbye. AND THEN I have to decide between Philomena's Miracle and Only By Chance...only to then have to decide between Midnight Sun's Magic and Fate is Remarkable.

    THE PAIN!!!!

And it isn't going to get any easier!

  11. Robert Taylor - sigh! And I never knew he was born Spangler Arlington Brugh, and that he loved to play the cello , so much so, that he followed his cello teacher to California when he was transferred to a college in Pomona. Wow!
And look who managed to get an autographed photo! ;o)

  12. Christmas Romance
    Henrietta
    Maggy
    Not Once
    Romantic Encounter
    Matilda
    Philomena
    Fate

I was sad to see Mary Jane go, but Henrietta is one of my top 5. FiR is not one of my top faves, but I do like it better than Midnight Sun. I like the hero/heroine in Winter Wedding but that scene with the seconal makes my skin crawl. The hardest one for me this week was Duert/Christina vs. Jemima/Alexander, but I've always loved that scene in Not Once where he pulls over and lets her sleep on his shoulder. I'm a sucker for a good sleep. (I almost can't forgive Walle for waking Philomena after only four hours of sleep when she's been up all night, but there's the irascible grandfather and the handful of pebbles thrown against her window, and also I'm not a huge fan of the tour guide ones.) Also, every time I do one of the votes I get irritated with TGB all over again for not coming up with accurate titles. I cannot keep the Christmas ones straight. Two minutes I after I look to see which one is which, I've already forgotten again. Fortunately there were several in this round with the heroine's name, which helps.
