Betty in the Wild...

...or better yet, Betty at the Beach!

James and Matilda (from The Most Marvelous Summer) came along for some summer fun on the beach.
Grandson Henry is ready to devour a good book. Seriously.  He would have eaten the book if I had let him.
Betty Keira's 3rd pledge was a pretty good sport about posing with  a romance novel while keeping warm in his mound of sand.
It was a nippy morning at Oswald West State Park - plenty of surfers wearing their full Oregon surfing regalia (wet suits). The waters from the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon Coast are really quite frigid.  I can see why some wimps surfers might want protection from the icy waves.
Betty Debbie's youngest pledge calming strides out into the waves  - without a wet suit.

  1. Great pictures, Betty Debbie! Wish I could have been there on the beach. Brilliant shots. Little Henry has grown a little more since the last time we have seen him. Betty Debbie!!! You've lost a lot of weight since last year! You look absolutely wonderful! Good for you!!! (Could do with a few pounds less myself...)

  2. Love the photo of Henry snacking on the book! I love to go to the beach when it's chilly, not oven hot.

Congrats on the weight loss, Betty Debbie. I'm trying to slim down my splendid self a bit, but I can't say I'm doing a very good job of it right now. My oldest sister is going on 6 weeks of hospital/nursing home(moved in yesterday)care, and it's been very draining. Then yesterday my father-in-law was admitted to the hospital. I will be going back and forth between both.

I actually have a Betty in the Wild from May to post, but it's just been pushed to the side right now. Later!

    1. I don't think I've ever been to the beach in Oregon when it's "oven hot". Warm, yes, hot? Not so much. I don't mind the chill.

Thank you for noticing the weight loss! I've been working on it since the beginning of the year.

      (oh yeah: New Year's resolution)

I've lost nearly 50 lbs...but it's slow going whenever my schedule gets messed up - like when I go out of town for the weekend or head off on vacation (which I will be doing next week). I imagine that trying to lose weight while taking care of invalids would be even harder. Take care of yourself, hope your sister and FIL are doing better.

  3. Betty Debbie, you look absolutely fabulous, and congratulations -- that is some seriously hard work you have completed. Did you happen to travel to Tillamook at all? I think Tillamook is one of the most beautiful places on earth....the cheese factory and blimp museum are fun too. Spent a lot of time in that part of the world during our tour at Fort Lewis.

    1. Tillamook is lovely - I haven't gone to the blimp museum yet, but one of these days I will.

We always make time to stop by the cheese factory. Dr. van der Stevejinck is not one to turn down any opportunity to have ice cream (and cheese).

  4. Everyone looks wonderful; what fantastic genes you Founding Betties have.

In defense of surfers, may I just note that I have often swum (for real, not just splashing) in the frigid Atlantic off the Massachusetts coast, as early as March and as late as November. The one or two times I tried surfing, though, I was delighted to have a wetsuit -- you stay in a loooong time, not moving much, just waiting for the right wave, with most of your wet body out of the water enjoying any cooling breeze that happens along. You can get really, really, really cold doing that (tried it once with half a wetsuit and wasn't sure my teeth would ever stop chattering).

  5. The coldest water temperature I have ever "enjoyed" in an out-door pool was 63°F/17°C. I did't stay in it for very long.
