T(ea) is for Texas

Yeehaw!  Betty von Susie and I, Betty AnoninTX, celebrated Bettysday a day early on Saturday, September 14, with a wonderful tea.  We, along with Betty von Susie's wonderful friend Rose, met at the beautiful Dallas Arboretum.  The PRT (Poor Retired Teacher as opposed to RDD) wandered around the Arboretum, taking photos of flowers and pumpkins, while we had tea.

Neither one of us wore a jersey dress!  Please don't hold that against us.  Betty von Susie wore a lovely green, black, and white dress with a white shrug, and she had a darling black fascinator in her hair.  I found a purple crepe dress tucked away in the back of my cupboard, and I wore a black hat that felt like it was as big as the Titantic.

The tea itself was wonderful.  The first course was chicken and vegetable broth and a cheese cracker.  The tea was vanilla mint.  The photo here is the second course of tea sandwiches.  There were cream cheese, turkey with apricot butter, egg salad, cucumber, and chicken salad.  The tea was peach cinnamon hibiscus.  Just thinking about the third course makes my mouth water.  There were chocolate truffles, pecan clusters, huge chocolate covered strawberries, little lemon curd tarts, and blueberry scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream.  The tea was Earl Gray.

It was a very nice day.  It was so great to meet the wonderful Betty von Susie!  Happy Bettysday to you all.

  1. You Texas Bettys look lovely; I am so sorry to have missed it.

Betty Magdalen and I are delaying our Bettysday together so she can hit a writing deadline; somehow I think The Great Betty would understand.

I was all set to celebrate with three good-natured and enthusiastic Honorary Bettys on Tuesday when I get a phone call from one of their daughters in Casualty saying that "Mom can't come to tea today because she is having emergency surgery for kidney stones." Her daughter said the first thing Honorary Betty Carla said upon her daughter's arrival was for her to tell me that she couldn't make tea for Bettysday. That is akin to Theatre Sister performing while suffering from a perforated appendix--clearly a Kindred Spirit Betty. The other Honorary Bettys and I vowed to celebrate post-discharge with her.

  2. I'd like to say I'm not really that large and white, but I am. Some guy named Ahab has been stalking me....

P.S. Betty Anonin Tx looked lovely and cool, I was a hot mess. She brought my friend and I lovely gift bags with Fortnum and Mason tea. Such a sweet and gracious lady.

  3. I saw you on the globe, Betty AnoninTX, when I turned on my computer tonight, hours ago. I wish I could have joined you for tea. The sandwiches look delicious. Sigh, I'm getting hungry, feeling peckish, I mean.
And ladies, your dresses may not be jersey but they are very Neelsian garments nonetheless. There are a great many crêpe dresses in the Canon as well as an astounding number of sleeveless dresses. Great Betty in the Elegant Wild pictures.

  4. Betty Ross and I just had toasted cheese for supper. Isn't that a classic pre-RDD meal?

I so wish I could have been there. Now it's triply important that I make it to central Pennsylvania to see Betty JoDee. (That she knows a great tea shoppe is NO INCENTIVE. Not at all.)

You both look lovely! It's nice to put faces to the Betty names.

In case anyone missed it, here's the original report of Betty JoDee, the Brit Hubs (Betty Henry aka Brit Hub 1.0, and Betty Ross, aka Brit Hub 2.1) and me, meeting up for the first Bettysday, which we erroneously thought was 100 years after The Great Betty's birth. (It was 101 years. But TUJD didn't exist the preceding September, so we did the best we could.)

  5. Don't believe a word that BvS says. She's lovely. I'd kill for that perfect movie star nose, thick hair, and refined voice. And yes, I was almost suffering a heat stroke. lol In Dallas it is humid, and it just about kills me. I can handle a 114 degree dry heat in Lubbock much more so than a 95 degree humid day in the metroplex.

The next day at the zoo I survived by eating shaved ice all day and by ducking into air conditioned buildings when I could. I did get to see Baby Belle, but Baby Bowie and his mother did not make an appearance because they were spending the day bonding quietly.
