Betty Birthdays

While no velvet Elvis, Betty Kylene's plunger was a fitting Bettysday tribute...
The Founding Bettys are celebrating the birthday of their mother and their eldest (and wisest and loveliest) sister today.  (Yes.  The very same day.  A fate worse than death, to my mind--carry a child nine whole months and the little so-and-so arrives just in time to filch every cake choice for the next twenty years!  Thank heavens we love Betty Marcy regardless...) And that got us thinking about the up and coming Bettysday.  We'll be celebrating 101 years of the Great Betty on September 15th and we wanted to give our Sister Bettys a heads up so that you can plan and plan and plan.

So slap together a tea party, stage a read-in, poetry-slam some commemorative haiku
(...Let's see:

...hop a bus, drive a lorry, queue for a train...But whatever you do, take a picture and send it to us!  (Whomever paints a Betty-themed piece of velvet art wins.)

I'm in the Wash DC area, and while not at all certain as to my plans for 15 Sept (work travel is a real possibility), if I'm at home I may sneak out of the office early, in a good suit that anyone with an eye for fashion would know was several years out of date, and have tea in Peacock Alley at the Willard Hotel.

  2. I am always open to a tea party here! And it should be nice on the 15th of Sept. too, so we could do it on the Verandah!

Oh - and I'm in Central PA for anyone who doesn't know. :)

  3. Betty Ross and I will be in Scotland. Alas, not the bits of Scotland that The Great Betty frequented.

But, on the plus side, that should be around the time that we get close to (and -- fingers crossed -- perhaps inside!!) Arnage, the manor house Betty Ross's ancestors owned until around WWII. I will report back on whether it's more historical romance or converted-to-an-old-age-home a la later books in The Canon.

Unfortunately, we'll have to eat our fairy cakes and drink the teapot dry without all of you. :-(

  4. This just came up on my living social deals and it would be the perfect way to spend Betty's Day. Alas with no Betty's here in Michigan, I don't think I could bring myself to go alone and eat two peoples worth. That would totally undo all my good work now that I can fit back into my favorite UJD from the mid 80's. Any Betty's out there want to visit Michigan in September? Tea would be on me! High Tea

I would *love* to visit Michigan in September, but doubt it will be possible. Incidentally, Betty Mary, could you please contact that bookstore cafe and scold them for their mis-use of the term "high tea"? This vulgar American misapplication must be eradicated!
