Cinema Betty

The Quiet Professor. Okay, let's see what we've got. Older, successful, gorgeous professional woman is back-stabbed by seemingly guileless young woman. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy:

All About Eve

I love Bette Davis and her cold, dead stare. Anne Bancroft is no slouch either but her best roll was as Egyptian tartlet Nefretiri in The Ten Commandments, uttering the truly gag-inducing, "Oh, Moses, Moses you stubborn, splendid, adorable fool!"

Paradise For Two:
This is what Betty Debbie posted:
Ooh, Ooh!!!! How about Arsenic and Old Lace? 2 aunts and a nephew!

This Betty has a room in her house called The Cary Grant so is super happy to oblige. Two sweet-as-pie aunties practicing their own brand of Death With Dignity. Keep your eyes open for the charging Teddy Roosevelt (Dutch name!).

Betty Debbie also thought we could go with an island theme as Prudence and the courtesy aunts stay on an island, with guest appearances by Jerome Blake, fortune hunter and Haso the Dutch Hottie.... so she also suggested:
TV show Lost...(Jerome is an other, or possibly a tailie)
Lord of the Flies (Eek! Who is Piggy!?)
And Then There Were None...
Gilligan's Island Rescue from Gilligan's Island (1978). Gilligan makes the list because of the three TV movies. And, besides, despite the slapstick approach, it is a TV predecessor to Lost, although the Lost crew might find the comparison bothersome. Right, little buddy?

  1. How could you mention "The Ten Commandments" without a gratuitous picture of Yul Brynner?

Ah, Arsenic and Old Lace--the only one of Grant's madcap comedies that I loved.
To join the chorus--we want Yul!! or even a cheesy pic of Chuck Heston as a stud muffin Moses.
Island theme--Mother Goose, of course! Yoiu can never have too much Cary Grant, and Leslie Caron is just marvelous.

  3. Um, you do know that's Anne Baxter, not Anne Bancroft, don't you?

  4. Betty Debbie called me and said, "Is it Anne Baxter or Anne Bancroft?" I replied, "Anne Baxter, duh." "But you put Bancroft." "Did I?" Blarg. I plead a screaming baby.

@Betty Barbara: I intentionally excluded Father Goose from Betty Debbie's island theme list because that's a movie that deserves more than a passing mention...

  5. We want Ramses and Moses bare-chested! (And Cecil B. DeMille thought he was just playing to the males with his skimpy Bible times costumes gimmick.)

You know I read it as Baxter even though now I see it was Bancroft--I think that Betty Keira's keyboard just glitched (that's what I always say anyway).

Re: "Father Goose"--Goody Two-Shoes and the Filthy Beast--that could be the title of a Neels tome

  6. "Goody Two-Shoes and the Filthy Beast"--Betty JoDee, you're my kind of Betty.

  7. Betty Barbara here--
Yes, I read Anne Bancroft as Anne Baxter, because I knew who you meant. And of course I meant Father Goose, but typed Mother Goose (well, because I'm Brain Dead(tm), that's why) and Betty Keira and Betty JoDee knew what I meant.
