Round One: Section Four Results, Section Five Voting

Forward, forward! We're running our wheels down the track to the Elysian Fields of Betty perfection!

Here are the results of Section Four of voting:

Esmeralda flummoxed The Edge of Winter.
A Gem of a Girl strapped cement boots onto to Grasp a Nettle (no votes!).
Pineapple Girl schooled A Matter of Chance.
The Little Dragon (he of the sheepskin jacket and battered Mini) slipped by The Hasty Marriage (he of the mighty tumbled ego and the susceptible heart).
Never While the Grass Grows lassoed Britannia All at Sea

Betty Keira looked earnestly into his eyes and gave him the clue:  "When The Hasty Marriage goes down to The Little Dragon, I shall run away to the Blue Pool...But take a week to find me anyway.  I won't mind."
The only heart break for me is Hasty Marriage's great fall.  Ah well.

So, let's get going on Section Five:

Ring in a Teacup vs. Philomena's Miracle
Sun and Candlelight vs The Promise of Happiness
Midnight Sun's Magic vs. Winter Wedding
Hannah vs. Last April Fair
When May Follows vs. Caroline's Waterloo

So...vote and whatnot.

  1. Betty Barbara here--
Ooo! I get to be first! (I hope)
(But first, I want to share a moment of silence with Betty Keira for The Hasty Marriage-sniff)
    Anyway, here's my vote:

    Ring in a Teacup
Promise of Happiness (aka Becky and the Hot,Hot Baron)
    Hannah
    Caroline's Waterloo
    Winter Wedding

  2. Ring in a Teacup vs. Philomena's Miracle
Sun and Candlelight vs The Promise of Happiness
Midnight Sun's Magic vs. Winter Wedding
    Hannah vs. Last April Fair
When May Follows vs. Caroline's Waterloo

Betty Janet here and I vote for ...

    Philomena's Miracle
Promise of Happiness (brings tears to my eyes, every time!)
Winter Wedding (still don't understand why that wicked sister wasn't thrown in the clinker)
    Hannah
    Caroline's Waterloo (my favourite orphan)

  3. I'm going to throw my votes in now too (this weekend promises to be quite hectic)...

I really could just say "ditto" to Betty Barbara's votes as mine are identical.

    Ring in a Teacup
    Promise of Happiness
    Hannah
    Winter Wedding
    Caroline's Waterloo, Caroline's Waterloo, Caroline's Waterloo

  4. Thank you Betty Barbara for getting here first. (I was feeling awfully conspicuous, like being the only person in the front pew...)

    Okay.

Ring in a Teacup, because Lucy is awesome.
The Promise of Happiness, because while Sun & Candlelight is more memorable, it's mostly because it has the stepchildren breaking the wind-up music figurine. Oh, and the poetry at the end.
Midnight Sun's Magic because I, personally, don't like the Seconal Twins.
Hannah, because she twiddles the bottle for Baby Paul (it is Paul, right?).
When May Follows, mostly so it gets at least one vote, but also because I like the very real over-the-top angst when she thinks he's died in an airplane crash.

  6. It had to happen. A favorite losing (where are all you Hasty Marriage fans when we need you?!?!) and two favorites going against each other. At least I won't be heartbroken when one loses to the other.

Philomina's Miracle because Lucy is just a ditz brain.
Sun and Candlelight, but how can I'm so sad for A Promise of Happiness.
Winter of Change...I think.... yep ... sigh.
    Hannah
    Caroline's Waterloo!

  9. So Sorry Betty Keira. And to think if only I was voting I could have saved the Hasty Marriage cuz That Demmed Dragon is a wall banger. 8-( It's just that I hate to vote uninformed and my memory is so awful, I'd be reading non-stop to do the job right. And it's Lent and Betty Megan just turned 16 and Irish Betty Brigid just found out that she's got a little Leprechaun on the way (due sept 22). And there's no time. >>>Betty Mary runs off stage right singing I'm late, I'm late....<<< Yeah, school play is Alice this year. Again So Sorry.

    2. Congratulations, Betty Mary! It's terribly exciting. "Little leprechaun..." Snorg!

No worries about Hasty Marriage. I'm reciting "If you love something set it free..."

  10. *Ring in a Teacup - Love Lucy.

*The Promise of Happiness - Just love this one! Sweet Becky and the Baron plus Bertie and Pooch. But I like Sun and Candlelight too. Love Sarre's rescuing Alethea in the restaurant. But those kids and Nanny? Ugh!

*Midnight Sun's Magic - It's in Norway! But I like Winter Wedding too, except for selfish Louisa and the twin incident.

*Hannah - Love her personality. "What?"

*Caroline's Waterloo - She hid behind the door! How can you not love that?!

  11. Philomena's Miracle
    Promise of Happiness
    Winter Wedding
    Last April Fair
    When May Follows
(As much as I love the little pregnant donkey, I HATE Radinck in CW, telling her he spent the night with another woman is unforgivable, period. End of story.

  12. via email:

    From Betty Adrianne

    Ring in a Teacup
    Promise of Happiness
Winder Wedding--I grew up near a family whose mother regularly used medication on the little ones to keep them quiet so this aspect didn't seen too bizarre. Having the mother of the twins leave the country, though...well, that does seem strange, but I have met some mothers like that character.
    Hannah
When May Follows--Terribly tough choice but Waterloo worked for me only after reading Betty Debbie's fabulous review.

    The Opal Lady
    Adrianne
    Thanks for posting for me.

  13. Caroline's Waterloo.

Especially after The Betties explained what the title means.
And even though I couldn't stand the Hero after the first few reads--he was so arrogant and distant and mean. And he was sooo lucky to have Caroline to love. And I liked that she biked so much before she even met him. And I liked how spunky she was even when he didn't like her ideas.
