Results and The Imperiled Poppets Bracket (Round 4)

Well, well, well, Betties. It looks like we've got a bracket-busting insurrection on our hands. I had not thought that Fate is Remarkable (not a personal favorite), which won our last attempt to crown a Neelsian Winner, would fall so early. Henrietta's tiny tin oven proves as sturdy as any Aga. I tried to spread out some of the more universally acclaimed books across the brackets and Fate is Remarkable was certainly an anchor of this one.

Our results from The Hocked Locket Bracket are as follows:

Fate is Remarkable would always have her crown--a timeless classic.

Henrietta's Own Castle

Only By Chance

Dearest Mary Jane

Our last bracket in this round is The Imperiled Poppets Bracket. Some favorites of mine are up for contention (No, I won't push my finger on the scale and tell you! I run an honest racket...er, bracket.) I hope it's not too awful to say goodbye to your favorites. Best of luck with the voting this week!

Chris Jackson could teach the Betties how to say goodbye in one word.
Hotly.

It's getting too serious for flippant remarks.

  3. Betty Barbara here--happy that Henrietta and Mary Jane prevailed against their honorable opponents, while shedding a tear for dear Matilda.

    The Hasty Marriage
    Roses Have Thorns
    The Promise of Happiness

I dislike Secret Pool for sooo many reasons and The Hasty Marriage is one of my guilty pleasure books. Cassandra by Chance has a fabulous first half, but a weak second, complete with Cassandra being an idiot about the other woman; I just love Roses Have Thorns so much (one of my top 5). The Promise of Happiness--well, what is not to love about Becky and his hotness, the Baron.(another of my top 5, if not my absolute favorite). Sorry Augusta, you are just not on my radar at all.

    1. I would have to agree with your comments Barb, and I'm kicking myself for not voting the last round. I'm surprised Fate is Remarkable got voted out, so I'd better make this one count. I'm really torn between the first two as I love both books, but here goes:
      The Hasty Marriage
      Roses have Thorns
      The Promise of Happiness.

  4. The Hasty Marriage (despite the turban)

I could have gone either one on the middle matchup (Cassandra/Sarah). I ended up going with Cassandra because I've never liked that scene where Sarah is caught in the rabbit trap. It's just a bit too helpless-damsel-must-be-rescued for me. After reading the Barb in Maryland's comments, I tried to figure out why I love Tulips for Augusta, and you know, it's at least partly because of her mom and her nickname (Roly). I do love it, it's at least top ten for me.

  6. Oh dear, I wrote a great long diatribe about why I made my choices and blogspot swallowed it whole... Nevertheless, here are my votes:

    The Secret Pool
    Cassandra By Chance
    Tulips for Augusta

The gist of my thinking was that there are very few books that can stand against Cassandra, but one that makes me say, "Which one is that again?" is certainly not going to do it. Also I do like that you have made the two nasty, selfish husbands face off against each other in the first pairing. As for darling Roly...

  7. The Hasty Marriage
Cassandra by Chance (one of my favorites!)
    The Promise of Happiness

I will almost always vote for the plain but-redeemed-by-a-pair-of-fine-eyes (yes, I know, wrong author)over the statuesque beauty. Perhaps shades of my own insecurities? Nevertheless, I prefer the quiet, overlooked heroines to the magnificent-figured ones, especially as the latter tend to take umbrage for no apparent reason and spend far too much of the books disliking the hero.

  8. First of all: Yaaaaayyyy! One of my choices made it into the next round! Happy Dance! 💃

    The Hasty Marriage
    Cassandra by Chance
    The Promise of Happiness

The first and the last are soooooo easy,
    💖The Hasty Marriage💖 and
💞The Promise of Happiness💞 are among my top three.

🕶The Ogre vs. Portly Charles🐈 Difficult! I like them both... In the end, I went with the Ogre because from the first time I have read the novel it has been a favourite, even though 🌹Roses🌹 may actually be the better story, from beginning to end.

  9. I am a new voter but a big Betty fan. Not sure how the voting works. Could someone explain it to me please. Love to read all your comments.

    1. Up in the post there is a link to The Imperiled Poppets Bracket which has three pairs of two books each and you'll vote for one of the pairs. There is no set criteria for your vote, it's all your own. You choose your favorite books from those match-ups and make a comment in the comments section listing your winners and I tabulate them.

The rest of the post above that link is just the results from the previous voting bracket but each post will look roughly this way, results on the top, new bracket for voting on the bottom.

Also, glad you're here, Betty Brenda! Please feel free to jump into the voting and commenting with both feet!

  10. Thank you Betty Keira. I have loved reading your reviews of Betty's books. I am glad to meet so many of her fans.

    Secret Poolong
    Roses Have Thorns
    The Promise of Happiness

I have read all these comments about Cassandra by Chance, but just cannot say it is in my top 20. Love Roses Have Thorns and the Promise of Happiness.

  11. The Hasty Marriage
    Roses Have Thorns
    Tulips for Augusta

I have a soft spot for The Hasty Marriage, I think because it was my first Betty Neels. I just love Roses Have Thorns. And although I love Becky and the beginning of the book, I feel that the Baron was sometimes needlessly nasty to her.
