Snowed In?

Happy Groundhog's Day!

This Founding Betty is feeling very grateful this week.  Why?  Because the monster snow storm that is currently wreaking havoc on much of the country is totally giving the Pacific Northwest a miss. We did have a little frost yesterday morning, but that's the extent of our 'winter weather'.

In honor of all of our dearly beloved Bettys who live in those parts of the country/world that are currently being pummeled by an excess of the white stuff, I've compiled a short list of books wherein snow plays a major factor:

An Old-Fashioned Girl.  Patience Martin, Julius van der Beek, and Miss Murch (the housekeeper) are all snowed in together. Miss Murch is the 'chaperone' - but spends much of the time in bed with the flu.
The Fifth Day of Christmas . A very young (29!!!)RDD knocks on the door in the middle of the night. He's lost!! in a snowstorm. Julia and Ivo get along great as long as they're snowed in. A patient, two ambulance men and a family retainer make up the band of chaperones.
Fate is Remarkable. Sarah runs off to Scotland and hardly notices the snow (she's sad and, sadly, alone). Hugo catches up to her there...and from that point on they don't have to worry about cold and snow...they've got their love (and implied conjugal relations) to keep them warm.
A Dream Came True (to be reviewed later this month). Actually, the heroine is NOT snowed in with the hero, but he does come to the rescue...in a helicopter!

So, grab a snuggle-y blanket, find a comfortable chair and enjoy some heart-warming Betty goodness.

  1. Betty Barbara here--
We dodged the latest snow bullet here in central Maryland. So far, anyway.
Rather than snuggling up with a good Betty book, I've been out running errands, in anticipation of our luck running out!!
I really liked Old Fashioned Girl and Fifth Day of Christmas. I am envious of our heroines' ability to make bread from scratch. Bread is not one of my strong points in the kitchen. Cookies now, I ace cookies! And soup--I do a good soup.
As a matter of fact, I need to go start the soup for supper. Ta Ta for now.

  2. Betty Barbara--one concept for making bread: KitchenAid dough hook.

  3. Ooh, bread. I would love to make bread. Alas, I would eat it all, right out of the oven.

  4. We got 15 inches. Not a big deal. Just kidding! Of course it was a big deal, we love our snow here in VT, and get plenty, but we don't often get 15 inches in one day! The snow drifts are easily 4 feet high here, we've had snow on the ground since November. We've had snow the last 60 out of 70 days, I believe I heard on the weather report....
