Betty's Story, Part II

Fellow Bettys

Betty Barbara here with a quickie add-on to the Betty Family Tree:

I had an error in my first post--such are the hazards of genealogical research. Details below. Also below--Betty’s older sister!

Ooops--the Neels household at 50(or 56) Lea Hall Road, Leyton actually belongs to Betty’s uncle William Lewis Neels.
Ernest Randle, Isabel Alice and their TWO daughters are at “Tramore’ (oooh, a named house!), Brightwell Ave, Westcliff-on-Sea (which address the family held for a number of years). I apologize for the error.

I was unaware that Our Betty had an older sister, but indeed she did. Lilian Isobel was born 25 May 1908. Lilian married one Winston Rupert Cranmer in late 1936 in Devonshire. She died in November 1999 in Salisbury Wiltshire.
In 1937 the electoral rolls show Lilian and Winston at 123 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea. In 1938, we find that they had a telephone at that address.
They had several children. Winston died in Oct 1985, in Devon.

  1. Ha! Slight error. But the "Ha!" was not for that. And you did have Ernest's correct address before, too:

"His address at enlistment was 77 Brightwell Ave, West Cliff (on Sea), South End.

The 1922 Kelly’s Directory lists Ernest still at 77 Brightwell Ave."

I looked up the address (google maps) and what place name did I see? Southend-on-Sea. (Wiki: Westcliff-on-Sea is a suburb of Southend-on-Sea, a seaside resort in the East of England and unitary authority in Essex.)
And this is where the "Ha!" comes in. Because I knew that one of the Oliviamintas went to Southend-on-Sea! Now I just had to consult with books.google.com to find out which of them did.

"To her delight Emma had written back; why didn't Miss Tilly go to Emma's sister who lived at Southend-on-Sea and did ..." (The Doubtful Marriage, page 49)

Great work, Betty Barbara and thanks to the Mijnheer, too.

    1. P. S.: Somebody has worked on the blog. It's great that you now can make a direct reply to any comment. However, I have the feeling I will go blind reading the comments. I thought the lines were overlapping, then I marked a passage copied it into a word document where it looked normal. But in the blog - you can see it in a marked passage - the lines do overlap each other. Could you change that please? Thank you.

  2. For some reason, blogger is forcing me to reply to a previous reply and not the post itself. Oh well. I meant to congratulate the Founding Bettys on 60 followers! I didn't want to jinx you guys by mentioning it, but since last ~July when I joined (when there were 47 followers), you've grown by an average of 2 new followers a month! Now I've jinxed it!

    1. Betty Lulu,

How to reply to a previous reply and not the post itself.

I tried it and it worked, and I replied giving how-to-instructions - and then the little man in the computer deleted my reply!

But now I see it is even easier. (Did I overlook something, or did he do some work on the program? - Nice little man in the computer!)

If you wish to reply to the post itself (not a comment):

click on "Reply" anywhere, then go to the bottom of the page and click on "Add comment".

    2. OOPS!
That should have been "How to reply to the post itself and not a previous reply".
