Here are the results of the last round of voting! I've highlighted, in Bilious Green, the titles that did not make it through the nasty bout of Gastroenteritus sweeping the brackets. The one that makes me the most sorrowful is The Hasty Marriage which is not your jam, Betties. This I know. But I am like Laura. The heart wants what the heart wants. And the heart wants Reilof.

A) The Barfing on His Brogues Bracket:
Dearest Love
Caroline's Waterloo
Blow Hot, Blow Cold
B) The Handful of A Levels Bracket:
Wish With the Candles
A Gentle Awakening
Tabitha By Moonlight
C) The Hocked Locket Bracket:
Henrietta's Own Castle
Only By Chance
Dearest Mary Jane
D) The Imperiled Poppets Bracket:
The Hasty Marriage
Cassandra By Chance
The Promise of Happiness
Our next task is to take it from Eight swoony titles, down to Four. We'll do it in all one round. I hope that the Sustaining Chocolate we'll need to fortify ourselves, doesn't make anyone slip into a diabetic coma. Please vote on the following:

Betty Barbara here--consoling herself with chocolate after the loss of 'The Hasty Marriage'. Now down to business--
ReplyDeleteI am voting FOR:
A) Dearest Love
B) Tabitha by Moonlight
C) Henrietta's Own Castle
D) The Promise of Happiness
That wasn't so hard...
I pick the following to continue on:
ReplyDeleteA)Caroline's Waterloo
B)A Gentle Awakening
C)Dearest Mary Jane
D)The Promise of Happiness
A&D were no-brainers - Becky and Caro are my numbers 1 & 2, respectively, in the Canon. B&C were a bit closer, but regardless of the sexiness of the hero (I’m looking at you and your shorts, Marius), for me it all comes down to the heroine.
Sniff, sniff, this is never easy! (Oh Laura, how I will miss you.)
ReplyDeleteA) Caroline's Waterloo
B) A Gentle Awakening
C)Henrietta's Own Castle
D) The Promise of Happiness
Hard Choices, as I love Dearest Love and Cassandra By Chance. I go for spunky, self reliant heroines and some of these were hair thin choices.

ReplyDeleteI am with Laurel, not easy at all but I am very sorry Blow Hot Blow Cold is gone. That is my number one book tied with Damsel In Green.
ReplyDeleteMy Vote
A) Dearest Love
B) Tabitha By Moonlight
C) Henrietta's Own Castle
D) The Promise Of Happiness
Really hard choices - all of these are in my top 20 and I am thrilled Tabitha is hanging there.

Where is an RDD with a beautifully laundered handkerchief when you need one?
Choosing
was not as hard as losing
one of the best.
As for the rest,
here are my choices.
And I hope to hear your voices
applauding mijn goede smaak.
And now please wish me luuuck. (Sorry, had to make it rhyme with [smahk]. π)
A) Caroline's Waterloo
B) A Gentle Awakening
C) Dearest Mary Jane
D) The Promise of Happiness
love the rhyme!!
DeleteOh lord, this was hard. *grimly places votes since the whole point of this is to keep narrowing it down*

Gentle Awakening
Henrietta's Own Castle
Promise of Happiness
and p.s. I've been off-line for a couple of weeks, just wanted to say how much I love this group and how at the same time that we can laugh about Betty and her peculiar foibles, we all dearly love these books. I'm a little sheepish how much I care about this. *group hug*

I'm so happy to find this group, I thought I was slightly crazy to love TGB so!
I must put in a word for Tabitha in Moonlight. It's TGB at her best! Of course Dearest Mary Jane is right there also, as is The Promise of Happiness. They are all so good!
I'm so with you about Tabitha. Gentle Awakening is probably the ONLY one that could beat it out, but I do love the lemonade scene, and as much as I love Tabitha (and the oil-stained shorts of course), I've never been that fond of the ending--because seriously, why couldn't he have told her once her stepmother agreed to sell? there was no reason other than to draw out the ending. Those are both top three for me, or top four anyway, with the other two being Henrietta's Own Castle and Dearest Mary Jane, the OTHER impossible pairing in this round.
DeleteSo sorry Only By Chance didn't make it. It is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHere are my four:
Dearest Love
A gentle Awakening
Dearest Mary Jane
Cassandra by Chance
I am very happy Dearest Mary Jane and Cassandra by Chance are still in the running. Yes!!
Dearest Love
ReplyDeleteA Gentle Awakening
Dearest Mary Jane
Cassandra by Chance
Dearest Love
ReplyDeleteA Gentle Awakening (I need to re-read Tabitha which I have no fond memory of)
Dearest Mary Jane (the greatest of all!)
The Promise of Happiness -- the best opening of all the books. How can one resist Becky and the dogs?
The suspense is killing me! Come on Tabitha, you can do it!
