Betty Goes to Church

They found seats neat the back, and presently the recital started with a disembodied voice explaining in English what music would be played and the history of the Cathedral, ending with the advice to turn around and look at the organ at the back of the Cathedral when the organist broke into particularly loud music.  Isobel, with Mrs. Olbinski's old hand in hers, only half listened.  This was the real Poland, she thought, here in church, with the flag hanging on either side of the chancel and the quiet people sitting in the pews around her.

Never Say Goodbye

  1. Nice match up Betty Debbie. Do you think Betty went to Poland and saw this cathedral? I sure would like to go. I've never been in Poland, and was never really interested before. Here's a lovely shot of the
    Oliwa Cathedral at night.
And below is some detailed info that I found interesting. I was wondering why this church had a place name instead of a Religious name. This answers that question.
I'm a big fan of your Betty Goes to Church segments. Thanks so much for doing it. 8-D

  2. Betty Mary,
That is a lovely picture of the cathedral at night. I looked up the organ - here's a link..

I'm amazed that the cathedral survived all the wars.

  3. Wow, that organ is amazing. I'd be afraid to stand under it, as it looks to heavy to stay in that loft!
Yes, can you imagine it's been there in some form since the 1100's and the current one for at least 400+ years.
Does look a day of 3 centuries!
