A new book by Betty Suzanne.
The sturdy brown leather shoes would have to do. As much as she wanted to buy a new pair of butter soft heeled shoes, Emmaline couldn't afford to spend her precious pounds on such extravagance. There were more important items to purchase, such as the wedding dress for her younger sister Lilianna who planned to be married at the village chapel in the Spring. Emmaline, the sensible older sister, had taken care of her sister since her parents untimely automobile accident some four years prior. While she was happy for her sister, Emmaline knew that she was approaching an age where she was unlikely to get married. At 25, she had no looks to speak of except her wide brown eyes lined with long thick lashes.
Just as Emmaline was exiting the bus to start her day at the orphanage, she spotted a beleaguered beagle trying to cross the street. She hopped to the curb and fell with a gasp. Emmaline started to get up to rescue the dog and was stopped by a well formed hand grasping her worn brown shoe. A Burberry coat covered the arm of the calm mannered stranger. He propped Emmaline against the bus stop, grabbed the dog's collar and returned to her side before she had a chance to protest. "I'm Dr. Henrick van der Speigle " , he said in a strongly accented voice. "You may have twisted your ankle."
