Saturday's Child takes Wish with the Candles lunch money.
Uncertain Summer bloodies Victory for Victoria's nose.
Cassandra by Chance (squee!) knocked Winter of Change down a steep hill. (And good riddance, evidently. WofC didn't get a single vote.)
Stars Through the Mist hip checked Three for a Wedding

Enchanting Samantha had The Gemel Ring for lunch.

Section Three Voting:
The Magic of Living vs. Cruise to a Wedding
The End of the Rainbow vs. A Small Slice of Summer
Henrietta's Own Castle vs. A Star Looks Down
The Moon for Lavinia vs. Cobweb Morning
Heaven is Gentle vs. Roses for Christmas
Oh, gag. (And why am I always first?)
ReplyDeleteThe Magic of Living
A Small Slice of Summer (even though I know it'll lose, but I can't vote for That Man)
Henrietta's Own Castle
The Moon for Lavinia (because of Poisonous Penny)
Roses for Christmas because I like it
Betty Barbara here--
ReplyDeleteRats! I haven't yet to beat Betty Magdalen to the punch. Maybe next time!
Well, here goes;
Magic of Living
End of the Rainbow (Betty Magdalen--we will cordially agree to disagree on this one)
Henrietta's Own Castle (he climbs over the wall!)
Moon for Lavinia (best teenage girls in Neelsdom)
Heaven is Gentle (see, Betty JoDee, someone else likes your favorite book!)
*The Magic of Living - Gideon looking in the bus, Arabella besting Hilary, assisted abduction of Arabella. Good one.
ReplyDelete*A Small Slice of Summer - Julius and Georgina again, the bull in the pasture, Jason kissing Tishy in the hospital corridor.
*A Star Looks Down - Sweet Beth with her violet eyes, Dirk and the boat incident, Alexander on the platform.
*The Moon for Lavinia - Radmer standing up to the mean aunt, the fire at the farm, scheming but sweet teenage girls. (I love the ending of Cobweb Morning but can't stand Penny)
*Heaven is Gentle - Scottish Highlands, Cat + kittens, asthma, Christian who couldn't resist Eliza, the rescue from the rat-faced man. One of my favorites.

A Small Slice of Summer (Dear little Tishy!)
A Star Looks Down
The Moon for Lavinia
Roses for Christmas
This was easy.

Mostly negative votes:
ReplyDeleteMagic for the stammer but more b/c the central premise of Cruise is ludicrous
Small Slice b/c I love Tishy! and Jason! and Georgiana and Julius living their HEA! and the bull! and the whole Marsden family! and the gypsy dog! and the two cars I've never heard of!
Henrietta's for her independence and competence, but also b/c describing Beth as plain is insane, and Alexander believing the lying little boy is irritating.
Lavinia b/c I don't care for the whole Penny-may-be-a-dangerous-psycho-but-don't-say-anything-to-her-caretakers plotline
Heaven for the Highlands and tiny blonde Proudfoot, but more b/c the idea, in Roses, that Fulk may have loved Eleanor since she was five and he 17 is really icky
Off topic: 70 members!!! Ten since early January. Beating the previous average of two per month.
ReplyDeleteFounding Bettys-take turns patting each other on the back. One of the ladies at my favorite used book store told me that the original Esmerelda cover was her favorite book cover EVER (and she handles a ton o' books every day), so I told her about TUJD. Spread the word, ladies, spread the word....

ReplyDeleteGood morning,
I had no trouble separating the wheat from the chaff in this listing. Here is my slate of winners:
Magic of Living
End of the Rainbow
Henrietta
Moon for Lavinia
Roses for Christmas
I found it interesting that for some of the competing pairs I would have chosen the other after my first readings of the books several years ago, but my re-readings revealed either previously hidden depths or glossed over snarkiness.
