Use: Emma sent the nurses to tea one by one, snatched a cup herself with the surgeons between cases, chivied staff off duty and returned to theatre.

I can't think of a word I would use instead of chivy--maybe 'scoot' or 'shoo' but I found myself moving my hands (both raised in front of me, palms pointing in, fingers down, making short, impatient flapping motions away from my body) instead of saying a word which, while it entirely encompassed what I meant, was not a verbal equivalent.

What would work better than 'shoo' or 'scoot'?
