I have the vague suspicion that the last section votes occasioned note-taking and revenge-swearing. Here's how it shook out:
The Magic of Living beat A Girl Named Rose (Soundly. I was bummed...deeply, mellow-harshingly bummed about this one.)
The End of the Rainbow knocked out The Secret Pool
Henrietta's Own Castle took down Off With the Old Love
A Moon for Lavinia beat A Gentle Awakening (Bummed about this one too...)
and
Roses for Christmas crushed When Two Paths Meet.
The Dimpled Blonde |
Now we have Section Four going up against Section Ten:
The Vintage Blonde |
A Gem of a Girl vs. Romantic Encounter
Pineapple Girl vs. The Quiet Professor
The Little Dragon vs. An Old-Fashioned Girl
and
Never While the Grass Grows vs. A Valentine for Daisy
The Gratuitous Blonde |
I choose
ReplyDeleteEsmeralda
A Gem of a Girl
Pineapple Girl
The Little Dragon
Never While The Grass Grows
Esmeralda
ReplyDeleteRomantic Encounter
Pineapple Girl
The Little Dragon
A Valentine for Daisy
Betty Barbara here--
ReplyDeleteOh my, Sean Bean as Sharpe. What a lovely start to the day. Sigh...
Let's now go to the ballot:
Hmmmmm.......
A Little Moonlight yes, the mum is terrible, but at least I believed the romance. I just never believed the romance in 'Esmeralda'
Arghh-a coin toss--Romantic Encounter. But I also like "Gem of a Girl', too.
Quiet Professor.
An Old Fashioned Girl. An easy one for me as I dislike 'Little Dragon".
Valentine for Daisy--mainly because I can always remember the plot, and 'never While the Grass Grows' gets mixed up with all those other titles that have 'Never' in them.
I thought I might have recovered sufficiently from the second-round elimination of Visiting Consultant to vote in this round, but then The Gentle Awakening got knocked out (much as little stepdaughter-to-be was knocked out in chasing adopted mutt, to be watched over by Florina. Florina! What a great name!), and now I have gone into a deep decline. Perhaps I'll revive when Betty Keira announces the wild-card picks... perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI know! Florina was axed cruelly.
DeleteGiven that this site is the "Champeen of Graffix," why do we not have a bracket so we can see what's coming up? Surely we're down to a small enough number of books that they can fit on a classic 64-team bracket?
ReplyDeleteBetty JoDee will draw the stick figures, I'm sure...

DeleteI wish I could show you the sheets of paper I use to do this--hash marks, sharpie, bullets--a mess! Maybe after this round I'll do up a bracket because it's about to become very unwieldy (due to entire sections being eliminated and some being only half eliminated...).
DeleteSo, I'll have to, I guess but not yet! ;0)
Given that the entire site is A++++ in my book (and none of Betty JoDee's "grade inflation" was needed to arrive at any of those + marks), I hesitate to suggest how you do anything...
Delete...but here goes nothing.
Take all the titles that are still alive.
Look up their ratings on the original reviews
Take all the Lashings of Whipped Cream books: those are your top seeds.
Take all your Queens of Puddings: next highest seeds
Presumably everything else is solid Boeuf en Croute, so have some fun. You're the Betty equivalent of the NCAA (NBAA?), so decide what goes where. (In addition, or in the alternative, use the way previous votes have gone to give you an idea what the Final Four should be.)
If you Google "64 team bracket" you get sites like this one: Free Printable 64 Team Tournament.
The beauty is, once the bracket's in place, all you have to do is dole out the match-ups in batches of fours.

I keep clicking over here just to smile back at Sawyer, feeling like I'm 17 and highly susceptible -- neither of which has been true for a long, long time. I'm glad I'm not either, actually, but the frisson has its merits.
ReplyDeleteYou hit things on the head, Betty van den Betsy. (as you do...)
DeleteBetty van den Betsy, seeing all those dark dudes, gingers and blondies - will there ever be a Betty by the Numbers - Handsome on the Outside? Although I ask myself if there is a point...

Broad ☑ Medium ☐ Slender ☐

ReplyDeleteOk. Sigh. My ratings are a bit weird, but there they are.
A Little Moonlight. I just don't like Emseralda. She is so focused on the wrong thing. Wish I liked it better.
A Gem of a Girl.
Quiet Professor. Pineapple Girl is one I waited a long time for, looking for one I could afford. I was sad to be disappointed by it. Quiet Professor isn't spectacular either, but I like it better.
Old Fashioned Girl. Never could get into Little Dragon. So much purposeful deception, and all the family in on it
Never While Grass Grows. I just have a thing for literature and poetry!.

Esmeralda (the plot may be entirely implausible, but I like it better than the other book)
ReplyDeleteA Gem of a Girl (I shouldn't like the fact that the RDD knocks out teeth...but I kind of do)
Pineapple Girl (in honor of all the girls who have embarrassed themselves by falling down in public)
An Old-Fashioned Girl (love love love Patience and her practicality)
Never While the Grass Grows (I like the cruise ship stuff here better than in any of the other stories, love the bit about the airy-fairy scheduling)
