I was talking to Betty Keira a couple of days ago and she said we ought to figure out just how many more Betty Neels novels we have to go.
Drumroll please.
53 down...81(ish) to go. Over a third of the way done. What are some of your favorites so far? What books are you looking forward to having reviewed? Any requests?
I was re-reading our posts recently. I still really liked doing my review of The Hasty Marriage--it's a hard book in the Betty canon but reviewing it made me love it.
I was surprised how rarely a close reading makes the book less than I remembered. Usually we'll sit down with a book we're only so-so about and be unexpectedly impressed.
I think that's part of her greatness. There are so many levels, you can get something more/new/different with every reading. Wish we knew just how intentional some of the writing is. Some of the humor is obvious, but the Bettys here find just so much more! Totally loving it.
You asked about our favorites so here they are - Sister Peters in Holland, Caroline's Waterloo and Chain of Destiny. Now, since I'm new to your blog, you might have already reviewed these, so I will continue to explore and enjoy your writings.
Just keep up the good work, dear Betty's! I'm still wondering around the site enjoying all the goodies here.

ReplyDeleteNope, still hate The Hasty Marriage--the only one I can't stand. (I can hear you, Betty Debbie, but I remain unmoved.)
ReplyDeleteWhere would we all be without a little pinch of dispute? I totally love that one but can understand easily why one wouldn't.
