Bettysday in Maryland

Dear Fellow Bettys

A report from rural Maryland:

It was a beautiful day for a ride in the countryside. Betty Barbara and her sister, (not a Betty)Carol drove west from Ellicott city in the socking great Bentley (cleverly disguised as a 2000 Saturn). Our goal: the lovely country abode of Betty Margaret.
Once there we were joined by Betty Margaret's sister, (not a Betty) Betsy. All four ladies were festively attired, in a tasteful Betty manner, of course.
There was convivial conversation and food, food and more food!
The table was set with the the family silver, starched linen napkins, Wedgewood dishes and Waterford crystal. All the best for celebrating the Betty!
We started with scones, Devonshire double cream and orange marmalade.
This was followed by dainty sandwiches: cucumber, ham, turkey; and mini apple/onion tarts.
And on to the fruit and cheeses. We had cheddar from England and Gouda from Holland and lovely red grapes.
Finally we finished with individual Pavlovas, with raspberries, lemon curd and whipped cream. And brownies--because one must have some chocolate!
We then collapsed in a major sugar coma. We kept ourselves awake by reading bits of Betty's work.
I am not sure if we two Bettys have converted our sisters to the cause, but a fine time was had by all.
The photo is proof that court shoes were worn. From left to right: Betty Barbara, Betty Margaret, (not a Betty) Betsy.

We had a great time!

  1. A faultless menu! I just love your court shoes and highly reverential fanciness.

  2. Love the shoes. I trust the whipped cream came in lashings.

  3. Betty Barbara here--
Miranda: Of course--lashings and lashings of whipped cream!
And, to correct a few typos (the sugar intake had obviously impaired my typing skills--)That's Ellicott City, and Pavlovas (an Aussie dessert, named for the famous ballerina, with a meringue shell base, then topped with filling, fresh fruit and whipped cream.)
Our book for the Betty readings was The End of the Rainbow--Betty Barbara's favorite.

  4. Can we get the recipe for the mini apple/onion tarts?

I feel like such a slacker for having the Four Seasons Jollys do all the work.

    (Love the court shoes shot.)
