February Book Drawing Example #2

Betty Keira gave us a sample of a book intro, in the style of Betty Neels. She told me that I had to do one also...here is my offering:
Ariadne for Always by Betty Debbie
Ariadne gripped the steering wheel tightly with her well shaped hands. The icy rain was sheeting down, making it impossible to see more than a few yards ahead. The moans from the back seat were getting louder and more frequent. She knew she would never make it to Nether Wallop in time.

"Agatha, we're just going to pull into this lay-by so that I can take a peek at you."

Ariadne twisted around in her seat and knelt on it so she could lean over the back...She needed to look at her sister Agatha, but she didn't think that it would serve any purpose for her to let in the cold and the rain. Agatha moaned again. Louder. When Ariadne had completed her Midder* the previous week - she had had no idea that her skills would be tested so soon AND in the back seat of a Mini.

The front door of the Mini was abruptly wrenched open. A large man, the rain dripping off his umbrella, smiled. Then, addressing the shapely back of Ariadne, said "Perhaps I could be of assistance?"

"Do you have a cloth, some string and a pair of scissors?" asked Ariadne, whose only thought was to safely deliver her sister's baby. Probably within the next few minutes.

The handsome stranger pulled off his scarf, unlaced his shoe and whipped out a pocket knife - the large kind with many attachments...including scissors. In spite of the bustle of delivering a baby, Ariadne took a brief moment to be impressed with the speed at which he produced exactly what she asked for.

*course in midwifery.

Out of date name? Check. Nurse? Check. Large, handsome stranger? Check. Medical crisis? Check.

  1. If I were in similar situation, I too would be heartily impressed with a Swiss knife complete with scissors. Is this vast stranger a doctor, I wonder?

  2. You'll have to wait for further installments to find out if he's a doctor.

  3. Slightly risque. I'm thinking that a dog in the back of the mini might have been right up Betty's alley.

Nicely done with the Doctor stepping right in.

  4. All you're missing is even more peril, so the Mini is actually perched precariously on the edge of something with nasty smelling water in it because the retaining wall alongside the B-road leading to Nether Wallop gave way unexpectedly. Oh, and it's not merely icy rain but an actual gale. With icy rain.

But I don't think the pregnant woman is related to the heroine. Could be a total stranger; she's often helping out total strangers. Or it could be a mongrel bitch about to whelp. Particularly one that some meanie tied up and tried to drown.
